Ramadan Prayers Held for Departed Muslim Leaders
Officials and community members gathered at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council to honor the legacy of past Muslim leaders during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Secretary General of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), Hajji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, led special prayers in remembrance of fallen Muslim leaders during a visit by prominent businessman Hajj Shafic Mulumba at the council’s headquarters in Old Kampala.

Hajji Mulumba, son of the late former Chief Kadhi of Uganda, Sheikh Kassimu Mulumba, met the Secretary General in his office, where the two longtime friends shared light moments before proceeding to the gravesite of the late cleric.

Sheikh Kassimu Mulumba was laid to rest at the UMSC headquarters in December 1986. Adjacent to his grave lies that of his contemporary, the late Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Saad Ibrahim Luwemba, who passed away in July 1997.

The visit served as a solemn occasion to honor their legacy and contributions to Islam in Uganda.

Fervent supplications were offered, beseeching Almighty Allah to grant mercy and eternal peace to the departed leaders, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

“We remember their service and dedication to Islam in Uganda and pray that Allah rewards them abundantly,” said one of the officials present.

The prayers highlighted the continued respect for past Muslim leadership and reinforced unity within the Muslim community during Ramadan.

Several UMSC officials later joined the prayers, including Deputy Secretary General for Finance and Administration Counsel Hajj Muhammad Ali Aluma, Executive Member Hajji Muhamood Kateregga Namuguzi, Secretary for Religious Affairs Sheikh Imran Ssali, and the Sharia Department representative Hajj.
